Understanding organizational behaviour is crucial for effective human resource management within the organization. Through this course, I have learnt various tools that have helped me in gaining a deeper insight about my own personality. These tools have also helped me highlight my strengths and weaknesses. The predominant tools used are MBTI, DISC, transactional analysis and Johari Window. These tools have helped me understand and further analyze my behaviour in terms of communication and conflict management. Johari window is an effective tool that can be used for training self-awareness, improving communications and interpersonal relationships (Hillson Murray-Webster, 2017). The matrix has been effectively designed for people to gain a deeper insight into their personalities. There are certain aspects of my personality which are known to myself and all around me. Every individual has a large open arena. There are many personality attributes of individuals that are known to everyone. As a person, I have always been an open book and rarely shied away from sharing my feelings or emotions. My open arena includes my personality attributes include my extrovert, helping, assertive, practical and highly optimistic nature. While using this tool, I tried to seek feedback from my peers and friends in order to understand those aspects of my personality which are unknown to me but known to others. My friends mentioned to me that I often tend to get highly aggressive during arguments and entirely fail to consider the viewpoints of others. Another feedback that I received was that I can sometimes get insensitive towards peoples feelings or emotions as I tend to be too practical in my behavior. The third section of the matrix that focuses on personality attributes that an individual is aware of but others are unaware of (McCabe Timmins, 2013). This includes my massive stage fear and inability to articulate and present my thoughts in an effective manner. This test helped me in understanding that I must learn to be more sensitive towards other people and respect their opinions. Being modest is important to grow in organization and build positive relationships with colleagues and clients. Therefore, I would work towards enhancing my threshold for patience and resolving conflicts in an effective manner. Transactional analysis throws light on four important states that an individual can be in. These four stats include two parent states and two child states (Clarkson, 2013). In a parent state, one can be nurturing or controlling while in the child state one can be free or adaptive. After online surveys and seeking feedback from my friends and family members, I have realized that my dominant state is that of a Controlling parent. This depicts a strong personality and the ability to convince people. The results also people with this dominant state find it difficult to be open to learning new things and often block themselves from developing new ideas. This can act against me in the long run. At workplace, especially in the field of sales, employees have to interact with new clients frequently. Each client is different and hence needs to be treated differently. Success and growth in any organization is only plausible when one is open to learning and embracing new ideas (Barrow, Bradshaw Newton, 2012). Therefore I would work upon improving this aspect of my personality.However, this personality instils traits of an authoritative leader. Autocratic leaders assist the organization by bringing order and control to the everyday operations of the organization. DISC personality test demonstrates an individuals personality depending upon four important factors of dominance, influence, steadiness and compliance (Lykourentzou et. al., 2016). My DISC personality test results showed that I have a dominating personality with an immense strong inner motivation to influence people and circumstances. The test results also reflected upon my competitive nature. I scored the high in two areas; dominance and influence. I can completely relate with the analysis of the test. The test results highlight me as a dominant person that can have a large influence on others. DISC personality model is highly effective for an individual in analyzing their personality (Emanuel, 2013). The tool can highlight the aspects that an individual needs to work upon. I have scored the least in compliance. This reflects that I have a difficult time in complying with what is being told to me. This is true for my behavior. I believe in doing things on my own regard and opinions of others matter less to me. In fact, very often I find it difficult for myself to listen to authorities and obey them. After taking this test, I analyzed that I need to work upon improving this aspect of my personality comply with and respect those in authority. In the workplace, it is important to establish a clear chain of command. In such a case, I would have to report to my seniors. Hence, it is imperative that I improve upon this from now onwards. I have also scored really less in Steadiness. Steadiness reflects upon the individuals ability to have patience, control temperament and be persistent. As a person, I have been very impatient and this attribute can hamper my work life. I wish to make a career in the field of sales. A sales job requires consistent follow ups and immense persistence. Hence, it is required that I start improving this part of my personality. Myers Briggs test is one of the most renowned personality tests which helps people in understanding which personality type to they fall into out of the pre-determined 16 personality types (McShane Glinow, 2013). These personality types are based on eight importance indicators. These indicators are extroversion and introversion, perceiving and judging, sensing and intuitive and lastly thinking and feeling (Lloyd, 2012). After taking the test, I realized that my personality type is ESTJ (Extroversion, sensing, thinking and judging). My results of the test resonate well with my personality. Through this test I came to understand how I handle different situations in life. I have always been an extremely practical person. I try to make the best out of every situation by evaluating the pros and cons. I am judgmental and I only believe in making practical choices in life. I have understood that my personality type has certain advantages as well as disadvantages. Being practical helps me in taking calculated risks and be prepared for unforeseen situations that I may encounter in my future workplace. Strictly from a work perspective, being practical and calculate helps in being more prepared. Owing to this personality type, I have decided to build a career in sales and marketing. In order to be successful in the same I need to focus upon my communication as well as relationship management skills. Sales job requires excellence in communication and negotiation skills (Martin, 2011). I would try to make these my strength and excel in sales field of a leading organization. One specific incident wherein I applied the MBTI model in order to resolve conflict was my recent argument with my team members. We needed to do a project that required us to introduce a new product and try to sell it to our friends and family members. My team member was introducing products which was creative for others but would not help us in making any profits. On the other hand, I had done a demand analysis for the product and I realized it will not sell in the market. After various arguments, I realized that my team member has an entirely different personality from me. I asked her to take the MBTI test and her personality type was ENFP. This made me realize that she is highly creative and emotional. It is difficult for her to see things practically. On the other hand, I am very practical and often assertive. In order to resolve this conflict, I decided to take a step back. I had a one on one meeting with her wherein we mutually decided that we can work together more effectively . She can focus on the creative side of our new product and make it appealing to customers. Along with that, I can take care of more practical issues including reducing our overall costs and increasing profit margins. The example given above is one of the many examples in my life where I tried to understand different personality types of people. Personality tests like MBTI, DISC and TA help people in resolving conflicts and enhancing their level of communication with others. Resolving conflict in an effective manner is imperative for the long term success of any relationship (Moore, 2014). This course and these tests have largely helped me in gaining a much deeper insight about my own personality. Self-reflection helps people in identifying their weakness so that they can work upon it. I am grateful that I took this course through my learnings here, I have been able to take control of the conflicts that I face and resolve them effectively. By the time a child reaches their first year, their chances of living longer increase. Although middle-aged people desire to live healthier lifestyles, they tend to be overwhelmed by distractions of everyday life like careers and family, which affects their behaviors. Time becomes an issue and exercise becomes a distant second to these distractions. Healthy eating is substituted by convenience of fast food restaurants.The way we live our lives in our youth affects our health in our older years. Exercise, healthy eating, drugs, smoking, and other behaviors all affect how healthy our lives will be in our nest years. Elderly individuals are concerned with maintaining healthy lifestyle which has been affected by their living habits in the years prior.Education plays a big role in life expectancy. It determines our income, our place of residence, and the market which we shop. They forged the image that diamonds are forever in order to promote the carefully constructed illusion of value. These two men are Barney Barnato and Cecil John Rhodes who together through their exploits in Africa created the diamond and mining company of De Beers Consolidated Mines. Husserl argued that things and objects reveal themselves to us. Their characteristics and definitions can be revealed and known to us by experiencing them at its very core. The experience that they are talking about is a rich kind of experience that range from perception, cognition, volition etc. We can know things by experiencing them by their own and there is no need for us to ascribe and subscribe to the classic methods of production of knowledge like those we stated above. The phenomenologists embrace a very clear air of ‘non-judgmentalism’. They make sure that knowing and defining a particular object is not a result of a bias that is influenced by other experiences. The most important thing is to experience each thing by them alone. For Husserl, possessing such kind of mindset will enable the things and objects to reveal their selves to us for us to know and understand them. With this set of statement of Husserl, we can see and feel a great resentment of the classic and conventional way of knowing and defining things. "Hide and Seek" by Vernon Scannell and "Half Past Two" by U.A. Fanthorpe Task: Compare two poems of the same theme in detail. In this essay I will be looking at two poems, which are similar in theme and discussing their similarities. I will be using the poems "Hide and Seek" by Vernon Scannell and "Half Past Two" by U A Fanthorpe. These poems are similar to each other because their main theme is growing up, as the poems are set in the mind of a child. The first poem called "Hide and Seek" by Vernon Scannell is an unusual poem as it takes a lot of imagination to fully understand the poem. The title of the poem suggests that the story is about a childish game but this is from an adult's point of view as this poem is set in a child's mind and so this simple game is a terrifying experience to the child. The opening to the poem starts with the frantic, short words "Call out. Call loud: 'I am ready! Come and find me!'" This sentence is short and sharp to show the tension and excitement of the hide and seek game, as there are three sentences (although not full sentences) to one line. This technique is used to build tension within the poem as making the sentences short and sharp increases the pace of the poem to make the reader more excited and anxious as to what is going to happen. The poet uses this to build an atmosphere of anxiety at the beginning of the poem so that the poem is rushed straight to an exciting sentence without the build up. This alerts the readers and makes them want to read on. The next sentence uses a lot of alliteration within the sentence. The sentence states "The sacks in the tool shed smell like the seaside". The poems also both use personification because at such a young age many simple objects can come alive really easily as the modern child has a wide imagination and can, if he or she wants to, make simple things come alive. Diversity in the Workplace Essay

Discrimination are more common in workplaces, because some people only think of discrimination as making a distinction and judgment of a person based on color of skin. Discrimination goes far beyond color of skin. A person can be disseminated agonist for their age, disability, gender, religion, or even for being pregnant. In a workplace there are standards and policies in place to decrease the chances of a person being discriminated against. When the staff is diverse in a workplace, discrimination less likely to happen. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission indicates that it is â€Å"illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person’s race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age or disability† (). I experienced discrimination in the workplace, and after making an EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) complaint on a supervisor, she became more discriminatory towards me. The supervisor would make racist statements, once she found out I put an EEO complaint in on her, she would deliberately change my schedule, and put me on shifts that I could not work, to get me to quit. Most places do not give â€Å"set schedules† which means a person works the same shift and works the same hours on the same days. However, the position I worked, was a set schedule position. After going through weeks of the hostile environment, and continued derogatory statements, I quit as it was stressing me out, which caused me to lose severe weight. There are federal and state legislation that supports fair and impartial practices in the workplace. Federal legislations that supports fair practices include: †¢Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin; †¢The Equal Pay Act of 1963 (EPA), which protects men and women who perform substantially equal work in the same establishment from sex-based wage discrimination (Scott, 2014). †¢the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA), which protects individuals who are 40 years of age or older; †¢Title I and Title V of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended (ADA), which prohibit employment discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities in the private sector, and in state and local governments; †¢Sections 501 and 505 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which prohibit discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities who  work in the federal government; †¢Title II of the Genetic Information Nondisc rimination Act of 2008 (GINA), which prohibits employment discrimination based on genetic information about an applicant, employee, or former employee; and †¢The Civil Rights Act of 1991, which, among other things, provides monetary damages in cases of intentional employment discrimination (Scott, 2014). There are responsibilities that human resource managers should uphold to protect the employees from discrimination in the workplace. It is important for human service mangers to strive to have a diverse workplace, while maintaining awareness of equal employment legislation and affirmative action (Lewis, Packard, & Lewis, 2012). Human service mangers objectives should include, but are not limited to promoting awareness of workplace diversity, develop and maintain a highly skilled, diverse and effective workforce, where all employees and members are valued, encouraged and provided with opportunities to develop their potential (Workplace Diversity, 2014). It I s also import to develop a supportive workplace culture which allows employees and members to balance their work and personal life, and provide a discrimination and harassment free workplace; and embrace workplace diversity principles in recruitment and selection processes (Workplace Diversity Plan, 2014). It is important for human service mangers and others who make decision to be aware of the effects of their practices (book). Their practices could either mak e the organization more effective and receptive, or continue discrimination against, women, elderly people, color people, and others (Lewis, Packard, & Lewis, 2012). There are many strategies involved in risk management. One strategy is human resources being accountable and responsible for providing information and recommendations about local, state and federal laws pertaining to equity and human rights, including an affirmative action place (Lewis, Packard, & Lewis, 2012). When human resource management are aware of their practices, human service organizations less likely to have cases of discrimination in the workplace. Another strategy is providing training in diversity and equity to increase knowledge and understanding of critical issues, improve job-related skills, develop leadership, and ensure responsive, sensitive support for individuals (Workplace Diversity Plan, 2014). Diversity within the workplace are paramount for human service workers and for management of human service organizations, because human  service organizations can offer services to a more diverse community with staff, who are culturally competent. This makes them able t o give services to all group of people leaving no error for discrimination. When a human service organization is committed to helping children who are sexually abused, these is no room for discrimination. Diversity is important in the dream organization called ChildFocus Sexual Abuse Organization (CFSAO), as many children will be from different ethnic backgrounds, with different beliefs, and different social-economics statues. The experience explained above consists of a supervisor making racist statements. In the CFSAO, diversity would have a huge influence on the clients as well as the human service workers. Racism would have a negative impact on the sexual abused children, which would further traumatize and victimize a child. It is necessary for the staff to be culturally competent, and sensitive to the experiences of all sexually abused children and their families. Culturally competency would apply to the development and management aspects of human services, because it provides human service workers with effective services that are equally accessible to each of the diverse groups that the organization serves. In conclusion, there are federal and local laws that protect people from being discriminated in the workplace. The human resource managers should be aware of their practices during the interview and hiring process, by hiring a more diverse group of people for a human service organization. This would decrease the chances of human service workers or clients from being discriminated against. There are strategies that can help human service agencies decrease discrimination in a workplace which can include promote awareness in the workplace diversity, and develop a supportive workplace culture which allows employees and members to balance their work and personal life (Work Diversity Plan, 2014). It also important for human service workers to be culturally competent, so they are capable of serving all groups of people from different backgrounds.

Debate of Gore/Bush

Gore believes that teachers should be able to have one on one sessions with their students and in order to do so he believes that classrooms should be smaller and more teachers should be hired. In order to hire more teachers he believes that teachers who teach a subject which was their own major should receive a bonus. He feels that education is important because â€Å"the students of today build the economy of tomorrow.† Bush believes that education is our first priority in this country. He believes that education should be both flexible for the students and the educators. He believes that more money should go into school funding and teachers should have a pay increase. He feels as though literacy is a big problem among children and he moves toward a structure of education that ensures a child his ability to read. Gore seems to be working towards helping the middle class population and hopes to pass a bill to give the middle class a tax cut. Bush is for big business and free enterprise. He feels that the government should not regulate big businesses and that competition in the economy is a very good thing.. Gore states that he is not afraid to take on drug companies to give medicare benefits to the elderly and bring down prescription prices to fit the elderly needs. He believes that we should slowly move step by step towards universal health coverage. He wants to make the health care plan better for those who have one and provide a health care plan for those who do not. Within four years he wants to make health care available for every child. He spoke of tax credit for individual health plans and an encouragement to businesses to give health care twenty-five percent credit. Bush is opposed to a national health care system. He stated that in the eight years that Clinton and Gore served nothing was done about medicare or social security. Bush also believes that Gore†s plans for healthcare cannot be carried out with our country†s budget and Bush believes Gore is a big spender. Bush stated how he provided health care for everyone in Texas and how a national health care plan would fail. I feel as though both candidates were pushing to get all of the issues in within this last debate and that made them not have much backup for all of their statements. I think this was just a â€Å"playground argument† between the two candidates. They both were trying to say they were the better candidate but they truly did not give us a reason why. Both candidates seemed to have some optimistic ideas for America but I just don†t see how some of their bills and plans would ever work. Although the debate did not show a good turnout for me I still feel as though Gore has more intelligence on his behalf and has exactly what America needs to expand us technologically.

In order to make a recommendation on what would be the best alternative for this scenario and to provide a solution that does not affect the company,  analysis and recommendations will be divided into phases. In the first phase will analyze the unit profitability report of San Juan Cell Phones, which is found in Table 1 in the statistical appendix of this document. This table shows that the company San Juan Cell Phones has a price per unit for the Alpha model for $ 20, of which the variable costs per unit are $8, fixed overheads per unit are $ 9 and a pro fit per unit of $ 3. The company Big Box will not pay more than $ 15 per cell phone; which implies a loss of $ 5 dollars per unit price for San Juan Cell Phone. If we analyze the loss from the perspective of the total cost of production, San Juan Cell Phones would have a total loss of production of $200,000, even without adding that there was no profit from this production. This loss would lead to other serious problems to company profitability, which will be difficult to replenish in the short term because the equilibrium price in the market is $15. Therefore can notice an excess supply. San Juan Cell Phones must make a comprehensive analysis of their variable and fixed costs and trying to lower them to compete with the market price and maintain profitability. On the other hand, evaluating the offer that provides OEM to San Juan Cell Phones, where the price of production per unit is $14; we can see that San Juan Cell Phones could meet the production requested by Big Box and in turn obtain a profit of $100,000. This in turn allowing you to San Juan Cell Phone keeps the market equilibrium price of $ 15. Where the company can lower the current price per unit and maintain its excess demand in the market and maintain profitability. As part of this analysis shows that the grant to the outsourcing manufacturing, with the penalty would take to keep all their employees working and running the factory capacity. The Minister’s Black Veil Essay -- Literary Analysis, Nathaniel Hawtho

In his various works, Nathaniel Hawthorne addresses the religious themes dominant in colonial Puritan society. For example, the beloved Mr. Hooper of Hawthorne’s parable The Minister’s Black Veil dons a black veil, a mysterious change which the Puritans believed â€Å"could portend nothing but evil† (Hawthorne 630). As a result, the Puritans isolate their minister. Even though the parable does show the Puritans’ harsh and superstitious reaction to the vagary of the minister, the veil itself symbolizes both the minister’s isolation from society and his connection to society through original sin. This veil and other symbols in Hawthorne’s works illustrate the universal truth that â€Å"all art is paradox.† Hawthorne approaches this notion in his novel The Scarlet Letter by placing contradictions at the heart of his art. The female protagonist, Hester Prynne, bears the societal burdens of adultery as she wears the scarlet letter â€Å"A. † Because of her suffering and struggle to find her place in society, Hester Prynne eventually receives redemption. However, Hester’s crime alters the lives of two others: Minister Dimmesdale and the physician Chillingworth, who both seek salvation, and by the end of the novel, all three redeem themselves. Nonetheless, the three would not have redeemed themselves had they not sinned. Through the contradictions of the true Christian model and his characters’ personalities, Hawthorne reveals that redemption is still possible even after one falls. Nathaniel Hawthorne paradoxically depicts Hester Prynne as the Christian model even though she is considered immoral. In Christian theology, Jesus is the physical representation of God and exemplifies the characteristics needed to attain salvation, so the way one could tel... ...this literary art to offer hope to the reader that redemption can be achieved after sin, and he effectively conveys this message through the contradictions of the Christian model and the personalities of his characters. In both The Scarlet Letter and The Minister’s Black Veil, Hawthorne explores isolation from society and connection to society by original sin through vagaries in religious characters, such as Dimmesdale and the minister Mr. Hooper. Through this paradox and those in his novel, Hawthorne reveals that life and human nature are paradoxes, for a person must struggle and face disappointment before he or she can truly find success and happiness. Moreover, a person can only redeem himself by understanding the consequences of sin through experience, and through these contradictions in his art, Hawthorne inspires his readers to find clarity from confusion.

Catharine Beecher and Charlotte Perkins Essay

In the article â€Å"Catharine Beecher and Charlotte Perkins Gilman: Architects of Female Power† by author Valerie Gill, Ms. Gill attempts to bridge the gap between what appears to be two powerful women of their time with two totally different opinions of the American woman and the type of life they should lead. The author points out the obvious differences of opinions in the writings of the two women, who are related by the way, and the different era in which they write. Catharine Beecher was the great aunt of Charlotte Perkins Gilman and lived and wrote during a time when a woman working in any other place besides the home was not something that happened often. A woman’s job during this time was to raise children and make the home a warm, inviting space that had functionality that would allow for â€Å"separate spheres† for the men and women, allowing the men to have a place to discuss outside ventures and women to have a place to deal with domestic matters. Charlotte Perkins Gilman on the other hand, lived during a period where productivity was happening in factories all over the country. Her feminist attempt to undo her great aunt’s idea that women should be assigned to only the home made it appear that the two women had absolutely nothing in common when it came to the ideas on how women should be viewed socially. Gill points out how the two very different opinions actually have many things in common. Both women agree that the role of women is very important to the health of society, even though they disagree on what their roles should be. By suggesting that each writer knows what is the best arrangement for women to experience shows another similarity between the two writers. As pointed out by Gill, â€Å"Both writers conceptualize the identity of women in spatial as well as socioeconomic terms, assuming that the fulfillment of their own sex can be quite literally mapped out†. The author makes a point that even though their opinions of what is ideal are very different, the idea that there is one way to make women live a full life is exactly the same. Both women also had the common conclusion that the woman’s place, whether it is in the home working or in the factory working, would make a great impact on the society. Architectural ideas as to better society are another thing these two authors had in common, as pointed out by Gill in the article. The elder author Beecher would make drawings in her articles about staging the home and using dividers as a way to make more areas in the home, and Gilman,  being concerned about the lives led by farmer’s wives, included drawings of a farming community shaped like a pie that had common areas to share, as to make life easier for them. Interesting enough, Gill included in her article a picture of a drawing done by Beecher, along with her sister Harriet Beecher Stowe, later in life of a block of houses with common areas used to house the â€Å"homeless, helpless, and vicious† which very much resembled Gilman’s block community idea where people shared common spaces and so that some women could take care of the children and household duties while others went out in the community to work. This is an excellent example of Beecher thinking like Gilman in the mixing of public and private space. It is my opinion that the aging Beecher was beginning to think out of the box. This article was insightful and gave a great example of how people with a difference of opinion can actually be thinking the same. If one just read the two women’s writings without an open mind, one would think they were completely different and had totally different ideas. Valerie Gill allowed the reader of the article to view a situation such as this one in a different way and to keep an open mind and read between the lines of any writings. I would have liked to have seen her go on and discuss the idea that some women may belong at home and some may belong in the workforce. I believe that every woman has a different situation to consider and what is important to one woman may not be important to another.
